Criminal
Law
Criminal
cases will generally be dealt with by a solicitor
local to you. As a firm holding a Legal Aid Criminal
Contract, we handle many criminal cases and offer
police station attendances as well as representation
at court.
All
criminal cases begin life in the Magistrates
Court. You can appear in the Magistrates Court
by way of "Summons" or "Charge".
Summons
A
Summons is a written demand stating that you
are required to attend Court in order to answer
the allegations made against you. A Summons
is usually issued by the Police but sometimes
it is issued by the Local Authority or other
Authority, such as the RSPCA. If you are summoned,
you are therefore being requested to attend
Court to deal with the matter laid before the
Court.
